Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed London on Monday en route to New York, leading Pakistan’s delegation for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
At London’s Luton Airport, High Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Faisal and diplomatic staff bade him farewell.
On September 26, Shehbaz Sharif will address the 193-member Assembly — his third appearance. His speech is expected to cover pressing global and regional concerns: the crisis in Gaza, the right to self-determination in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), climate change, terrorism, Islamophobia, sustainable development, and regional security.
Beyond his address, PM Shehbaz will take part in several high-level events on the sidelines, including meetings of the UN Security Council, the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and a special event focused on climate action. He is also slated for a gathering of select Islamic leaders with U.S. President Donald Trump to exchange views on peace and security.
During his New York visit, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with other global leaders and senior UN officials, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral cooperation. In his role as a member of the UN Security Council, he will emphasize working with all nations to uphold the UN Charter, prevent conflict, promote peace, and foster global prosperity.
With the world gathering under the UNGA theme “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights,” Pakistan aims to contribute constructively — advocating for justice for the oppressed, solutions for climate challenges, and solidarity against terrorism and Islamophobia.
