Pakistan Condemns Interception of Aid Flotilla, Demands Justice and Release of Activists
In a firm display of humanitarian concern, Pakistan has strongly condemned the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces. The flotilla, comprising over 40 civilian vessels and nearly 500 international activists, was en route to deliver critical aid to Gaza.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the action as a “dastardly attack” and stressed that those onboard — including former Pakistani Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan — were simply trying to help the people of Gaza. Pakistan’s Foreign Office has called the detention of activists a “flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.”
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar added that Israel’s actions endanger innocent lives and obstruct urgently needed relief, urging for an immediate and unconditional release of all detained activists. He also called for an end to the blockade restricting humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The incident has sparked strong reactions around the world — many countries and civil society groups have echoed calls for respect of human rights, safe passage for humanitarian workers, and accountability for actions seen as violating international norms.
