At the SCO Plus summit in Tianjin, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to global cooperation by backing China’s Global Governance Initiative (GGI)—a visionary framework led by President Xi Jinping to bolster multilateralism and uplift developing nations. He praised the initiative as a “historic step” aligned with the UN Charter and expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to actively contribute to this transformative endeavor.

Commending the success of the SCO summit and the impactful Tianjin Declaration, the Prime Minister shared his optimism that it will pave the way for lasting peace and prosperity across the region. Staying true to the “Shanghai Spirit,” he reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast dedication to promoting peace, regional connectivity, and development.

Highlighting the urgent need for climate equity, PM Shehbaz emphasized that countries like Pakistan bear the brunt of climate-induced disasters despite contributing less than 1% to global emissions—calling on affluent nations to share the burden and prevent further loss of lives and livelihoods.

He also underscored Islamabad’s preference for dialogue over conflict in resolving global disputes. Pakistan strongly condemned the atrocities in Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire, urging adherence to United Nations Security Council resolutions for lasting peace.

In a spirit of expanding partnerships, PM Shehbaz warmly welcomed Laos as a new Dialogue Partner within the SCO community.
