Pakistan, Belarus Strengthen Ties with New Agreements and Worker Opportunities
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan and Belarus have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation as Belarusian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakov called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Minister Kubrakov conveyed the warm wishes of President Alexander Lukashenko to the Prime Minister and expressed Belarus’s strong interest in expanding collaboration with Pakistan, particularly in the fields of agriculture, industry, and skilled workforce development.
Highlighting productive meetings with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Kubrakov said discussions had been instrumental in moving bilateral ties forward. The delegation also visited the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to explore avenues of cooperation in digital governance.
A significant milestone of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the employment of skilled Pakistani workers in Belarus. Under the agreement, professionals from Pakistan will benefit from medical coverage and social protection as part of their overseas assignments.
Welcoming the Belarusian delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that Pakistan and Belarus enjoy longstanding cordial relations, which are steadily gaining strength. He recalled his recent visit to Belarus, during which several agreements were signed across multiple sectors, and expressed satisfaction that the understanding on labor cooperation has now been formalized.
The Prime Minister also expressed his eagerness to welcome President Lukashenko to Pakistan in the near future, underscoring the importance of high-level exchanges in strengthening friendship and economic cooperation.
Minister Kubrakov, in turn, thanked the Prime Minister for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the Belarusian delegation, noting that the visit marks a positive step forward in the partnership between the two nations.
