Letin Auto Sparks EV Boom in Punjab

Letin Auto Ignites EV Innovation: Punjab Welcomes New Electric Vehicle Plant

Punjab is gearing up for an electrifying transformation: China’s Letin Auto Group is all set to establish a small-scale electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in the province. A 15-member delegation, led by General Manager Xu Zhen, recently met with Industries & Commerce Minister Chaudhry Shafay Hussain in Lahore to shape the exciting details of this venture.

A Beacon for Business and Innovation

The Punjab government is pulling out all the stops to support Letin Auto’s entry. Investors are being offered a lucrative 10-year income tax holiday and duty-free imports of machinery for facilities located in Special Economic Zones. According to the minister, “new investment… is not only strengthening the economy but also creating employment opportunities for thousands,” positioning Punjab as a glowing beacon for foreign investment.

Turning Challenges into Chances

Having completed bankruptcy reorganization in China in 2024, Letin Auto (formerly Levdeo) is now looking toward Pakistan—primarily Punjab—as a strategic hub for production, domestic sales, and exports. With attractive incentives and one of the lowest U.S. tariffs at just 19%, Pakistan offers a compelling advantage .

Energising Pakistan’s EV Landscape

Letin Auto’s entry adds momentum to an already growing lineup of Chinese EV brands in Pakistan, including BYDChangan, and MG. Industry insiders see this as a confidence booster for Pakistan’s budding EV market—where rising fuel costs and government incentives are paving a clear path for innovation and opportunity.

Inspiring Local Automakers to Accelerate

Current automakers are embracing the new momentum. A Japanese-origin assembler admitted, “We cannot sit idle anymore. We have to accelerate our EV plans and bring affordable models to the market.” Hyundai Pakistan has already launched internal feasibility studies for its EV lineup—driven, in part, by the competition Letin introduces.

Real Benefits for People, Industry & Environment

  • Consumers: Will enjoy more affordable, clean-mobility options.
  • Industry: Will see growth in local EV assembly, technology transfers, and battery/component development.
  • Punjab: Stands to benefit from increased job creation, industrial expansion, and stronger export potential.

In the words of a Japanese auto executive, “Chinese companies don’t just bring cars, they bring disruption. Those who adapt will survive, those who don’t will be left behind” . Analysts affirm that the arrival of multiple EV brands is ushering in a new era of choice and innovation—for the industry and Pakistani consumers alike
