Despite the skies clearing over Karachi, the city remains battered—not just by floods, but by persistent power cuts that have stretched into a fourth consecutive day for many neighborhoods.
Still in Darkness
Even after the last round of torrential rains subsided, power supply hasn’t fully recovered. Many areas—including Moinabad, Surjani Town, Yousuf Goth, Safora Goth, Madras Chowk, Scheme 33, DHA, Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 10, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Manghopir, Bin Qasim, Razzaqabad, Urdu Bazaar, and MA Jinnah Road—remain powerless. Some localities have suffered outages for up to four days straight.
The culprit? Water seepage into underground cabling, which continues to hamper full electrical restoration.
K-Electric Responds—Still a Long Road Ahead
At least some hope: K-Electric says they’ve restored power to most areas, with only around 40 out of 2,100 feeders still down due to waterlogging. Restoration teams are reportedly in action.
Citizens Strike Back
Karachiites aren’t quietly bearing the blackout. Demonstrations have erupted outside K-Electric’s offices on University Road, Tipu Sultan Road, Liaquat Market, and in Malir—where disruptions even halted the People’s Bus Service. Jinnah Avenue traffic snarled as protesters blocked roads.
Sindh’s Energy Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, paid an unannounced visit to K-Electric’s head office, ordering urgent resolution of public grievances.
In Closing
Life in Karachi is limping back—but in the shadows of outages that have left many grappling with darkness, disrupted routines, and a simmering frustration at delayed responses.
