Rana Tanveer Hussain Champions Cooperative Farming as Pillar of Pakistan’s Agrarian Future
Islamabad, October 1, 2025 — Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, convened a high-level meeting on cooperative farming and marketing, bringing together key stakeholders including Rana Iftikhar Muhammad, President of the Punjab Chamber of Agriculture, and other agrarian leaders.
In his address, the Minister underscored that cooperative farming is the backbone of sustainable agriculture for Pakistan. He noted that small and medium farmers, who make up the majority of cultivators, often struggle to access modern technology, affordable inputs, and fair markets. Through cooperation, he said, these barriers can be overcome collectively.
“Cooperative farming ensures every farmer, regardless of land size, has access to advanced machinery, climate-smart techniques, interest-free agri-finance, and direct market linkages,” he said. The model helps lower production costs, reduce reliance on intermediaries, and secure equitable returns for growers. Profit by Pakistan Today
Rana Tanveer Hussain further emphasized that the cooperative approach will not only uplift rural incomes but also fortify national food security. With improved yields through intercropping, value addition, and economies of scale, Pakistan could substantially reduce its dependency on imports of wheat, pulses, and edible oil — preserving crucial foreign exchange.
He praised Rana Iftikhar Muhammad’s efforts in promoting the cooperative model and assured that the government would extend full support by facilitating modern storage infrastructure, processing units, and export-oriented packaging centers under cooperative frameworks.
“This is not just an agricultural policy,” declared the Minister, “it is a social and economic revolution to empower farmers and secure Pakistan’s future.” He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing technical guidance and financial assistance through innovative mechanisms so that the cooperative model becomes a nationwide success.
