Pakistan’s Armed Forces have once again demonstrated their resolve and capability with Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos — a well-coordinated response to regional aggression which reinforced national defence and boosted confidence at home.
This successful operation has contributed to Pakistan being viewed as a capable security partner, culminating in the recent Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia. Under this pact, both countries commit that any aggression against either is considered aggression against both.
The agreement serves multiple positive functions: it enhances deterrence, strengthens regional stability, and provides Pakistan more breathing space to focus on its internal priorities like economic growth and development. It sends a clear message that Pakistan is committed to safeguarding its sovereignty while working with trusted partners to uphold peace.
Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos and the defence pact together reinforce key lessons: professionalism matters, institutions must be strong, strategies must be consistent, and merits must drive decision‐making. For example, Pakistan’s development of precision capabilities, sustained investments in its Air Force, and the maintenance of permanent defence institutions have played a central role.
These strengths not only helped in achieving military success, but they also raised Pakistan’s strategic profile. The new defence pact signals to neighbours and the international community that Pakistan is serious about deterrence and regional security.
On the economic side, Pakistan now has increased space to prioritize sustainable growth. However, for this potential to be fully realized, institutions like the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) must be empowered, decisions must be made transparently, and professional governance must be further strengthened.
If Pakistan applies the same institutional discipline, meritocratic appointments, and long-term strategy in economic affairs as in defence, it is poised to usher in a new era of prosperity alongside its growing standing in regional security.
