Pakistan and Oman Move to Strengthen Energy Partnership Amid Regional Shifts

In a positive step toward regional collaboration, Pakistan and Oman have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening energy ties, signaling a shared focus on stability and long-term cooperation.

During a recent meeting in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik held talks with Fahad Bin Sulaiman Bin Khalaf Alkharusi, exploring new opportunities in the energy sector while addressing evolving regional dynamics.

A Partnership Built on Strong Foundations

The discussion highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two countries—rooted in shared history, mutual respect, and strong people-to-people connections. Both sides expressed a clear desire to take this partnership further, particularly in energy collaboration.

Pakistan reaffirmed its intent to expand cooperation and explore new avenues that can support its growing energy needs.

Focus on Energy Security and Diversification

A key theme of the meeting was Pakistan’s ongoing effort to diversify its energy imports. With changing regional dynamics, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, the country is actively seeking alternative routes and reliable sources to ensure uninterrupted supply.

Oman welcomed this forward-looking approach and expressed readiness to support Pakistan’s energy security goals. Encouragingly, Pakistan’s request for preferential energy cargoes received a positive response, reflecting strong mutual trust.

Increasing Fuel Imports from Oman

The partnership is already translating into tangible outcomes. During March alone:

  • Three petrol cargoes and one diesel shipment were imported from Oman
  • Two additional petrol cargoes are expected before the month ends

These developments highlight Oman’s growing role as a dependable energy partner.

Expanding Collaboration Beyond Imports

Beyond fuel supply, both countries are exploring opportunities in upstream energy sectors, including oil and gas exploration and production.

Discussions also involved key industry players like Pakistan State Oil and Oman Trading International, which are currently engaged in talks to facilitate additional oil cargoes.

A Shared Vision for the Future

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening strategic ties and unlocking new opportunities for mutual growth. As regional energy landscapes evolve, Pakistan and Oman appear well-positioned to build a resilient and forward-looking partnership.
