The Government has approved a modern high-speed rail service that will connect Islamabad and Rawalpindi — a transformative step toward easing daily commuting for thousands of citizens.
In a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi, officials decided that this ambitious rail line will link Margalla Station (Islamabad) to Saddar Station (Rawalpindi). The journey between the twin cities will take only around 20 minutes once the service is operational.
The framework agreement is expected to be finalized and signed next week. The Ministry of Railways will handle the track infrastructure, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will manage the train service operations.
Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi called the project a “public welfare milestone,” emphasizing how it will allow people to travel quickly and comfortably without the usual traffic delays. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi added that the project reflects Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s vision to provide relief and modern services to the public.
Talal Chaudhry, Minister of State for Interior, noted that the high-speed train would be fast, affordable, and eco-friendly — while also reducing road congestion and fuel consumption.
This modern rail link promises to make daily life easier, support sustainable commuting, and bring Islamabad and Rawalpindi closer than ever before.
