Rare ‘Blood Moon’ to Illuminate Pakistani Skies This Weekend
Skywatchers across Pakistan are in for a spectacular celestial treat! The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has confirmed that a total lunar eclipse, popularly known as a Blood Moon, will grace our skies between September 7 and 8, 2025.
While “Blood Moon” isn’t a formal scientific term, PMD’s Deputy Director of the Climate Data Processing Centre, Asif Hussain, assured that the moon will indeed appear reddish during the eclipse—thanks to sunlight filtering through Earth’s atmosphere.
Timings for Pakistan (PST):
- Penumbral Begins: ~8:28 pm (Sept 7)
- Partial Eclipse Begins: ~9:27 pm
- Total Eclipse Peaks: ~11:12 pm
- Partial Ends: ~12:57 am (Sept 8)
- Eclipse Concludes: ~1:55 am
The entire event will span approximately 5 hours and 27 minutes, offering plenty of time for everyone to marvel at this natural wonder from across the country. The eclipse will also be visible across Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and parts of the Americas.
