The Sindh government has announced a two-day public holiday on September 5 and 6 to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the revered birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Government offices, educational institutions, and public bodies across the province will remain closed, while essential services like flood relief, emergency response teams, and healthcare continue their duties uninterrupted.
Will Punjab and Other Provinces Join In?
Punjab has already declared Saturday, September 6, as a public holiday aligning with the federal government’s notification. With Sunday, September 7, the weekly off, this effectively grants Punjab residents a two-day weekend as well.
In contrast, Sindh takes it a step further — officially granting two consecutive holidays immediately allowing a longer break from Thursday evening to Sunday.
As for other provinces — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and others — no official announcements have surfaced yet confirming similar extended holidays. They may await direction from the federal government’s notification or each province’s own administrative decision.
What This Means for Residents
- Sindh Citizens: A seamless two-day pause from Friday through Saturday, easing participation in religious processions and gatherings.
- Punjab Residents: A naturally extended weekend with Saturday off plus the regular Sunday closure.
- Other Provinces: Watching closely; many may follow federal guidelines, but nothing official has been released as yet.
This dual-holiday move by Sindh may set a precedent, signalling flexibility in provincial observance — a blend of administrative foresight and respect for religious traditions.
