PTI Lawmakers Step Back from Committees, Stressing Democratic Dialogue

ISLAMABAD:
In a move reflecting internal party strategy, PTI lawmakers have begun resigning from memberships and chairmanships of National Assembly standing committees following directions from their party founder, Imran Khan.

Confirming the development, PTI Chief Whip Aamir Dogar said members had started submitting their resignations to the National Assembly Secretariat, with the remainder expected to follow suit. He emphasized that PTI’s parliamentary activities would now be guided by its political committee, which recently concluded detailed consultations.

Lawmakers including Ali Asghar Khan, Faisal Amin, and Junaid Akbar confirmed their resignations, while others noted the decision reflects the party’s broader position on ensuring “relief and justice” for their leadership. PTI MNA Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel stated that the choice was made after extensive discussions, underscoring the party’s commitment to collective decision-making.

At the same time, PTI has decided to field a candidate in the late Mian Azhar’s constituency, ensuring representation continues for the people of the area. According to Hammad Azhar, the candidate will be either from the Azhar family or nominated in consultation with the party, demonstrating PTI’s pledge to respect democratic continuity.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar welcomed PTI’s past contributions to standing committees, noting their active role in discussions and recommendations. He encouraged PTI lawmakers to reconsider resigning, highlighting that standing committees are vital democratic forums where all parties’ voices matter.

Legal experts within PTI also pointed out that their decision stemmed from a desire for fair treatment and respect for committee rulings, stressing the need for dialogue and inclusivity in Pakistan’s democratic framework.
