Court Extends Remand in Digital Investigation Case
LAHORE:
A Lahore court has extended the remand of popular YouTuber Saad ur Rehman, widely known as Ducky Bhai, until August 28, as part of an ongoing inquiry led by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The case involves alleged promotion of unregistered online applications.
Presiding Judge Naeem Wattoo granted a shorter extension of five days, after carefully reviewing NCCIA’s request for additional time and hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defense. The court emphasized that the investigation should continue in line with due process and legal safeguards.
NCCIA is currently analyzing Rehman’s confiscated phone and laptop to gather digital evidence, ensuring that the inquiry is based on verifiable data. While the defense argued that further custody was unnecessary, the court decided that additional investigation time was warranted to complete the forensic review.
Rehman was first taken into custody on August 17 at Allama Iqbal International Airport, with his initial remand later extended twice. Authorities have stated that the inquiry is part of a broader effort to strengthen cyber accountability and ensure that digital platforms and influencers operate within Pakistan’s legal and regulatory framework.
Initially, the NCCIA was granted a two-day physical remand for Saad ur Rehman on August 17, against its request for 28 days. This was later extended by an additional four days on August 19 to allow investigators more time for review. His wife, Aroob Jatoi, also appeared before the agency on Wednesday after securing pre-arrest bail, reflecting the ongoing legal proceedings being conducted under the country’s judicial process.
