Punjab’s powerhouse, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, just landed in Tokyo—and what a reception it was! Fresh off her visit to Thailand, she touched down at Haneda Airport, where she was greeted with warmth and cheer by senior Japanese officials, Pakistan’s Ambassador Abdul Hameed, and a jubilant crowd of overseas Pakistanis waving flags and smiles all around.
This trip marks a milestone: Maryam is the first-ever Chief Minister of Punjab to make an official visit to Japan—a bold move aimed at putting Punjab on even stronger global footing.
Over the next five days, she’ll be making the rounds in Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama, rubbing shoulders with business leaders, government officials, and industry heavyweights. The agenda? Deepening economic cooperation, attracting investment, and showcasing Punjab as a hotbed for opportunities across sectors—from technology and manufacturing to agri-tech and renewable energy.
Earlier this year, Maryam had already set the stage by meeting Japan’s Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi, sharing her vision of collaboration in agriculture, minerals, IT, AI, robotics, and energy. She also extended a heartfelt “thank you” for Japan’s assistance during the 2022 floods and pledged full support and protection for Japanese investors eyeing Punjab’s markets.
Punjab’s Information Minister Azma Bokhari called this visit a “historic and strategic milestone,” saying Maryam is leading the way in forging stronger ties with friendly nations for a more prosperous, self-reliant future.
What to look forward to? Will Maryam’s visit spark real deals, fresh Japanese investment, or even joint ventures that benefit Punjab’s households and entrepreneurs? Stay tuned—we’ll watch this diplomatic chapter unfold.
