A government hospital in Lahore is facing serious scrutiny after allegations surfaced that a heart surgeon received more than Rs. 1 million from a patient’s family for a procedure that was reportedly meant to be completely free.
According to reports, the doctor identified as Dr. Rafay Gillani allegedly asked the patient’s family to transfer the payment directly into his personal bank account. The incident has triggered disciplinary proceedings under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEDA) Act.
The controversy has raised concerns over transparency and accountability within public healthcare institutions, especially at a time when many citizens rely heavily on government hospitals for affordable treatment.
Reports also claim that a ward boy at the same hospital demanded additional money from the family and allegedly threatened them regarding the scheduling of the surgery.
Following the allegations, authorities launched a formal inquiry into the matter. Officials are now seeking explanations from all individuals involved while gathering evidence related to the claims.
According to initial reports, the investigation is expected to be completed within 60 days.
The incident has sparked public debate online, with many social media users calling for stronger oversight in government hospitals and stricter action against corruption in the healthcare system.
While the inquiry continues, officials have emphasized that all allegations will be reviewed according to legal and administrative procedures before any final conclusions are reached.
